Procedure
A solution of potassium hydroxide in ethanol was added to 41 mg (0.12 mmol) of ethyl 4-[(E)-2-2-methyl-5-tert-butylphenyl)propen-1-yl]benzoate (Compound 26) and the resulting mixture stirred at room temperature. Solvent was removed in-vacuo and the resulting solid taken-up in water, acidified using 1N HCl, and extracted with ether. The ether extracts were washed with water, brine and dried (MgSO4). The solvent was removed in-vacuo to give the title compound as a yellow solid.
