Reaction Steps
A solution of potassium hydroxide in ethanol was added to 20 mg (0.049 mmol) of ethyl 4-[(E)-2-(3-chloro-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-5,5,8,8-tetramethylnaphthalen-2-yl)propen-1-yl]benzoate (Compound 12) and the resulting mixture stirred at room temperature for 24 hours. Solvent was removed in-vacuo and the resulting solid taken-up in water, acidified using 1N HCl, and extracted three times with ether. The ether extracts were washed with water, brine and dried (MgSO4). The solvent was removed in-vacuo and recrystallized using acetonitrile to give the title compound as a white solid.
