7.1 g of methyl 2-oxocyclopentane-1-carboxylate and 9.6 g of 4-chlorobenz-amidine hydrochloride were introduced into 50 ml of methanol. 5.6 g of potassium tert-butoxide were added with stirring. The reaction mixture was stirred under reflux for 4 hours and then poured onto ice water. The crystalline product was filtered off with suction, washed with water and recrystallized from dimethylformamide. Yield: 8.8 g. M.p.: 282° C.
