Reaction Steps
Sodium borohydride (0.06 g) was added to a solution of (E)-3-{[1-(ethoxycarbonylmethyl)-1H-imidazol-5-yl]methylidene}-1-(triphenylmethyl)piperidin-4-one (1.5 g) in a mixed solvent of dichloromethane (10 ml) and ethanol (10 ml) at 0° C. After the mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 0.5 hour and then at room temperature for 1.5 hour, it was partitioned between water and ethyl acetate. The organic layer was separated, washed with a saturated aqueous sodium chloride solution and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate. Removal of the solvent under reduced pressure followed by purification of the residue by silica gel chromatography using dichloromethane and methanol (19:1) as an eluent to give the title compound (560 mg, yield: 37%) as a yellow amorphous solid.
