Ethyl 3-[6-(t-butyldimethylsilanyloxymethyl)pyridin-2-yl]acrylate (5.45 g) was dissolved in 100 mL of ethanol, and 200 mg of platinum dioxide was added to the solution, and then the mixture was stirred under atmospheric hydrogen pressure at room temperature for 5 hours. After the purge with nitrogen, the catalyst was filtrated off, and the solvent was removed to provide 5.07 g of ethyl 3-[6-(t-butyldimethylsilanyloxymethyl)pyridin-2-yl]propionate as a pale yellow oil.
