10% Palladium on charcoal (700 mg) was added to a solution of 3-{[(1S)-1-methyl-2-(methyloxy)ethyl]oxy}-N-(5-methylpyrazin-2-yl)-5-[(phenylmethyl)oxy]benzamide (7.0 g, 17.2 mmol) in ethanol (125 mL) and the mixture stirred at RT under a hydrogen atmosphere for 4 hours. The catalyst was removed by filtration and the ethanol evaporated in vacuo. The residue was crystallised from ethyl acetate to give the desired compound (4.22 g). 1H NMR δ (CDCl3): 1.25 (d, 3H), 2.5 (s, 3H), 3.3 (s, 3H), 3.4-3.5 (m, 2H), 4.5 (m, 1H), 6.3 (br, 1H), 6.55 (s, 1H), 6.9 (s, 1H), 6.95 (s, 1H), 8.05 (s, 1H), 8.45 (s, 1H) and 9.5 (s, 1H). m/z 318 (M+H)+.
