Procedure
In a manner similar to that described in Example 2, methyl 4-hydroxy-1-{2-[methyl(methylsulfonyl)amino]ethyl}-2-oxo-1,2-dihydro-1,5-naphthyridine-3-carboxylate was dissolved in EtOH and treated with 4-fluorobenzylamine at reflux. After cooling the product fell out of solution and was collected. The crude was dissolved in CHCl3, washed with 10% KHSO4 solution, the organic was dried over MgSO4, filtered and evaporated to give the product as a white foam.
