The title compound was prepared in 50% yield as an oil using methyl-phenyl-carbamic acid 4-(2-hydroxy-ethyl)-phenyl ester and 2-hydroxypyridine. In addition 29% of the isomeric methyl-phenyl-carbamic acid 4-(2-oxo-2H-pyridin-1-ylmethyl)-phenyl ester was isolated, see characterization above. 1H NMR (400 MHz; CDCl3): δ 3.08 (t, 2H), 3.41 (br s, 3H), 4.49 (s, 2H), 6.73 (d, 1H), 6.88 (dd, 1H), 7.05 (br d, 2H), 7.22-7.42 (m, 7H), 7.61 (dt, 1H), 8.18 (dd, 1H); HPLC-MS: m/z=349.2 (M+1); Rt=3.97 min.
