Procedure

To a solution of Example 100C (46 g, 0.192 mol) in methanol (460 mL) was added NaBH4 (13 g, 0.345 mol) at approximately 0° C., and the mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 1 hour. The reaction mixture was quenched with saturated ammonium chloride solution (100 mL), and the he volatiles were removed under reduced pressure. The residue obtained was partitioned between ethyl acetate (500 mL) and water (250 mL). The organic layer was separated, dried over Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated. The material obtained was purified by column chromatography over silica gel using 5-6% methanol in chloroform to get the first eluting product (Example 101A, 5.3 g) and second eluting product (Example 100D, 5.1 g) together with 20 g of a mixture of both diastereomers.
