The residue prepared in STEP B above (0.174 g, 0.80 mmol) was dissolved in dry methanol (30 ml) and heated to 40° C. for 2 h. The resulting mixture was concentrated in vacuo to yield (Z)-9,10-dihydro-2H-[1,4]dioxocino[2,3-f]isoindol-8(5H)-imine as a residue. 1H NMR (CD3OD): δ 7.39 (s, 1H), 7.07 (s, 1H), 5.93-5.90 (m, 2H), 5.01 (d, 2H), 4.42 (s, 2H), 3.34 m, 2H).
