Procedure

To a stirring solution of methyl 5-(2-phenoxyphenylcarbamoyl)biphenyl-2-carboxylate 102 (0.723 g, 1.7 mmol) in DCM (3 mL) was added PPA (40 g, 1.7 mmol). The reaction was heated to slowly distill off the DCM then stirred at 110° C. for 1 h. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature, poured into ice water then extracted with DCM. The combined organic layers were washed with water, dried over Na2SO4, filtered and solvent evaporated to provide 103 as a yellow solid (0.537 g, 78% yield) after purification by ISCO (5 to 30% ethyl acetate in hexane).
