A 250 ml round-bottom flask was charged with 2-(2-fluoro-4-iodophenylamino)-1,5-dimethyl-6-oxo-1,6-dihydropyridine-3-carboxylic acid (2.0 g, 5.00 mmol) and dioxane (100 mL). To the resulting suspension was added 1-hydroxypyrrolidine-2,5-dione (0.63 g, 5.5 mmol) and DCC (0.63 g, 5.5 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 16 hours and filtered. The residue was concentrated under reduced pressure and purified by flash chromatography (Biotage system) using a gradient of EtOAc (0-50%) in hexane to afford the title product (2.1 g, 85%).
