A mixture of 4-(tert-butyldiphenylsilyloxymethyl)-1H-imidazole (9.25 g, 27.4 mmol), methyl 4-bromomethylbenzoate (6.297 g, 27.4 mmol) and TEA (2.782 ml, 27.4 mmol) in toluene (250 ml) was refluxed for 1.5 h. Water (500 ml) was added, the mixture was extracted with AcOEt, the organic phase washed with brine and dried over MgSO4. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the resulting oil was purified by flash chromatography on silica gel (CH2Cl2/MeOH: 100/0 to 98/2) to give:
