Procedure
3-4 Drops of conc. H2SO4 were added to a solution of 5-(4-fluorophenyl)-1H-pyrazole-3-carboxylic acid 1 in EtOH. The reaction mixture was refluxed for 2 days. The reaction mixture was concentrated and diluted with chloroform (100 ml) and washed with saturated NaHCO3 solution, water and brine, and dried over Na2SO4. Evaporation of the solvent under vacuum gave ethyl 5-(4-fluorophenyl)-1H-pyrazole-3-carboxylate 2 as a brown solid (1.05 g, 93%).
