To a solution of 2-methylsulfanyl-3-(2-trimethylsilanyl-ethoxymethyl)-3H-imidazole-4-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (99 mg, 0.31 mmol)(as prepared in the previous step) was added 2 N KOH (0.16 mL, 0.32 mmol) and the mixture heated to 60° C. for 3 h. The mixture was concentrated and dried under vacuum to give the title compound as a white solid. Mass spectrum (ESI, m/z): Calcd. for C11H19KN2O3SSi, 289.1 (M−K+2H). found 288.7.
