A solution of (S)-1-((S)-1-(4-bromophenyl)ethyl)-4-(2-methylallyl)-4-phenylpiperidin-2-one (30 mg, 0.07 mmol), the cobalt(II) complex whose preparation is described below (0.46 mg, 0.0007 mmol), TsCN (19.8 mg, 0.11 mmol) and PhSiH3(8.4 mg, 0.08 mmol) in anhydrous EtOH (5 mL) was stirred at rt for 4 h. After the solvent was removed under reduced pressure, the residue was purified by preparative TLC to give 3-((S)-1-((S)-1-(4-bromophenyl)ethyl)-2-oxo-4-phenyl piperidin-4-yl)-2,2-di methylpropanenitrile (15 mg, 50%).
