tert-Butyl (1-(pyridin-4-yl)piperidin-4-yl)methylcarbamate (7 g, 24.4 mmol) was dissolved in methanol and cooled in an ice bath; acetyl chloride (8.6 ml, 121.8 mmol) was added and stirring was carried out for 3 h at room temperature. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the residue was taken up in water/dichloromethane. The phases were separated, and the aqueous phase was washed with dichloromethane (2×) and dried by freeze drying. Yield: quantitative
