Procedure
1,4-Dioxaspiro[4.5]decan-8-one (5.4 g, 34.571 ml, 1.0 eq.) was dissolved in MeOH (35 ml). NaBH4 (1.57 g, 41.485 mmol, 1.2 eq.) was added at 0° C. and the mixture was stirred for 1 hour at RT. After monitoring by TLC, the reaction mixture was concentrated and the residue was taken up in water (100 ml) and extracted with DCM (2×150 ml). The combined org. phases were washed with water (150 ml) and sat. NaCl solution (200 ml), dried over sodium sulfate, concentrated under reduced pressure and used in the next stage without being purified further. Yield: 90% (4.9 g, 31.012 mmol)
