Reaction Steps
Starting from 8-bromo-2,2,6-trimethyl-4H-1,3-benzodioxin and 1-triphenylmethyl-1H-imidazole-4-carboxaldehyde. The organomagnesium compound is added at ambient temperature. The reaction product is purified by chromatography on silica (15 μm) (eluent: 98:2 v/v dichloromethanemethanol). Yield: 31% of theory; M.P.: 205°-215° C. (recrystallized from acetonitrile).
