7-Acetyloxy-6-hydroxy-3-(4-acetylaminophenyl)-4H-1-benzopyran-4-one [see Example 65a] (20 mg) is dissolved in a mixture of 1N aqueous hydrochloric acid and ethanol 1:1 (10 ml) and stirred during 12 h at room temperature. The solution is then extracted with dichloromethane, the dichloromethane layer is washed with water and evaporated to dryness under vacuum to give 6,7-dihydroxy-3-(4-acetylaminophenyl)-4H-1-benzopyran-4-one, m.p.>310° (dec.).
