Reaction Steps

Conc. hydrochloric acid (0.18 g) was added to a solution of benzhydryl 7-[2-(tert-butoxycarbonylmethoxyimino]-2-(2-aminothiazol-4-yl)acetamido]-3-vinyl-3-cephem-4-carboxylate (syn isomer)(3.0 g) in formic acid (12 ml) at 10° C. and stirred for 2.5 hours at ambient temperature. The reaction mixture was poured into diisoproply ether (100 ml). The precipitates were collected by filtration, washed with diisopropyl ether and dried to give 7-[2-carboxymethoxyimino-2-(2-aminothiazol-4-yl)acetamido]-3-vinyl-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid mono-hydrochloride (syn isomer)(1.6 g).
