Procedure
2-Hydroxyquinoline (ex. Aldrich) was treated with bromine in acetic acid to give 6-bromo-2-hydroxyquinoline (Paolo and Gianlorenzo, Chem. Abs., 63, 5602C, 1965). The latter was treated with phosphorous oxychloride and phosphorous pentachloride at 90° to give 6-bromo-2-chloroquinoline. The latter was converted to the title compound by analogy with compound 33.
