A suspension of 2-butyl-4-(1H-pyrrol-1yl)-1-[(2'-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)biphen-4-yl)methyl]-1H-imidazole-5-carboxylic acid (Example 16, 50 mg) in toluene (10 mL) was heated at reflux for 1 hour. Evaporation gave a gummy solid that was redissolved in ether and evaporated again to give the title compound as a colorless powder. 1H-NMR (CDCl3) δ7.9 (d, 1H), 7.6 (m, 2H), 7.4 (d, 2H), 7.1 (d, 2H), 6.9 (d, 2H), 6.8 (s, 2H), 6.5 (s, 1H), 6.1 (s, 2H), 5.0 (s, 2H), 2.4 (t, 2H), 1.6 (m, 2H), 1.3 (m, 2H), 0.9 (t, 3H).
