Reaction Steps

To a solution of aldehyde (1.1 g) from Step 3 in THF (15 mL) at -78° C., was added MeMgBr (1.4M PhMe-THF, 2.8 mL) dropwise. After 10 min, the bath was removed and the reaction mixture quenched with a saturated solution of NH4Cl. The reaction was diluted with Et2O, washed with saturated NH4Cl solution, H2O, brine, dried over MgSO4, and the solvent evaporated to afford the title product as a foam.
