Procedure
α-Aluminium oxide coated with 10% vanadium pentoxide (V-0501S from Harshaw) is used as the catalyst in the reactor described in Example 1 and the temperature of the air bath is adjusted to 245° C. 60 l of air and 33 g of pantolactone are subsequently added hourly to the evaporator. 99% of the pantolactone are transformed and ketopantolactone is formed with a selectivity of 85%.
