(Method H-2) (Cyclisation) 2,2-Dimethyl-N-[2-(10-methyl-9-oxo-9,10-dihydro-acridin-1-yl)-phenyl]-propionamide, 25 (50 mg, 0.13 mmol) was dissolved in 1:1 THF/6N HCl (20 mL) and the mixture heated to reflux for 5 days giving a bright orange solution. The mixture was basified (aq. Na2CO3) and extracted with ethyl acetate (50 mL) and the organic layer dried (Na2SO4), and evaporated under reduced pressure. The crude product was purified by column chromatography (1:4 EtOAc: hexane) to give the title compound as a yellow solid (35 mg, 0.12 mmol, 95%).
