A mixture of 2-benzyl-4-(4-fluorophenyl)-5-[4-(methylsulfonyl)phenyl]-3(2H)-pyridazinone, prepared according to the method of Example 5, (109 mg, 0.25 mmol) and Lawesson's reagent (202 mg, 0.5 mmol) in 15 mL of toluene was stirred at reflux for 48 hours. The mixture was concentrated in vacuo and the residue was chromatographed (silica gel, ethyl acetate) to provide the title compound (yield: 100 mg, 88%). mp 88–90° C. 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) δ 3.04 (s, 3H), 6.05 (s, 2H), 6.96 (m, 2H), 7.08 (m, 2H), 7.26 (m, 2H), 7.37 (m, 3H), 7.61 (m, 2H), 7.84 (d, J=9 Hz, 2H), 8.13 (s, 1H). MS (DCI/NH3) m/z 451 (M+H)+.
