Procedure
A cooled (0° C.) solution of 0.94 g (3 mmol) of [4-(2-methoxy-ethyl)-2-(6-trifluoromethyl-pyridin-3-yl)-pyrimidin-5-yl]-methanol in 30 ml dichloromethane was treated with 0.44 ml (6 mmol) thionylchloride and stirred for 2.5 h at RT. The reaction was evaporated, dissolved twice in heptane an evaporated to give 1.0 g of pure 5-chloromethyl-4-(2-methoxy-ethyl)-2-(6-trifluoromethyl-pyridin-3-yl)-pyrimidine.
