Reaction Steps
The methyl ester from Example 33B was dissolved in a mixture of MeOH (10 mL) and water (2.0 mL) followed by addition of LiOH monohydrate (1.9 g, 45 mmol). The mixture was stirred for 18 hours after which 10% HCl was added until pH=4 was achieved. This mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate (2×50 mL). The combined organic layers were dried with MgSO4, filtered, concentrated under reduced pressure to provide the titled compound (4.3 g).
