tert-Butyl methyl[(1R,2S)-2-(tetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-yloxy)-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-1-yl]carbamate (Method 16; 4.0 g, 11.5 mmol) was dissolved in methanol (50 mL), 4-toluene sulphonic acid added and the reaction stirred at ambient temperature for 2 hours. Saturated NaHCO3 (50 mL), water (100 mL) was added and ethyl acetate (100 mL) was added and the mixture stirred for 30 mins. The organic phase was separated, washed with water (50 mL), brine (50 mL) and dried (MgSO4). The volatiles were removed by evaporation under reduced pressure to give the title compound (3.0 g, 99%) as an oil.
