Procedure

A solution of N-(1-(4-chlorobenzyl)-piperazine-4-carboxamido) glycine methyl ester (813 mg, 2.50 mmol) in dioxane-CH3OH (3:1, 12 mL) was treated with 4N aqueous NaOH solution (0.63 mL, 1 equiv.). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. Solvent removal afforded the desired material which was used without further purification (885 mg, 100%).
