| Product | 4-(Benzyloxy)-3-hydroxybenzonitrile | HCID 15453451 | 25% |
Reaction Steps
A mixture of 3,4-dihydroxybenzonitrile (540 mg, 4 mmol), K2CO3 (552 mg, 4 mmol) and benzyl bromide (476 mg, 4 mmol) in acetone (20 mL) was stirred at room temperature for 3 days. The mixture was evaporated under vacuum and subjected to flash column chromatography (2% MeOH in toluene-hexane, 2:1) to give the desired product (224 mg, 25%): MP 101° C.; 1H NMR (Acetone-d6, 500 MHz) δ8.55 (s, 1H), 7.50 (d, 2H, J=7.3 Hz), 7.39 (dd, 2H, J=7.0 and 7.3), 7.34 (dd, 1H, J=7.0 and 7.3), 7.2 (m, complex, 3H), 5.25 (s, 2H).
