Reaction Steps
To a solution of 4-(2-benzyloxybenzyl)benzyl alcohol (0.67 g) in dichloromethane (30 mL) was added thionyl chloride (0.48 mL), and the mixture was heated under reflux for 1 hour. The reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure, water was added to the residue, and the resulting mixture was extracted with diethyl ether. The organic layer was washed with brine and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure to give 4-(2-benzyloxy-benzyl) benzyl chloride (0.68 g).
