Reaction Steps
A stirred solution of ethanolamine (9.15 g) in pyridine (40 ml) was cooled to 0° C. in an ice-salt bath, and mesylchloride (23 ml) was added dropwise at such a rate that the temperature did not rise above 5° C. When the addition was complete the mixture was allowed to rise to room temperature for 1/2 hour. The mixture was poured into citric acid solution and continuously extracted with ehtylacetate for 11/2 hours. The solution was dried over magnesium sulphate and evaporated to give 23.7 g of the title compound.
