A mixture of (3R)-2,9-di[(2-thenylthio)thiocarbonyl]-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-β-carboline-3-carboxylic acid (0.3 g), diazomethane [prepared from N-nitrosomethylurea (1.55 g) and 40% KOH (4.5 ml)] and ether (30 ml) is allowed to stand at 0° C. overnight. Undissolved substances are removed by filtration and the filtrate is concentrated to give the title compound (150 mg, 50%) as pale yellow powder.
