The product from Step 1 (6.17 mmol) was dissolved in absolute ethanol followed by the introduction of 10% Pd/C catalyst then hydrogen under atmospheric pressure. The catalyst was removed via filtration through filter-aid and the product was isolated by removing the solvent under reduced pressure. 1H—NMR (CD3OD): 7.8 (s, 1H); 7.75 (d, 2H); 7.3 (d, 2H); 6.9 (s, 1H); 5.45 (s, 2H); 3.3 (m, 4H); 2.6 (s, 2H); 2.3 (m, 4H).
