treating the guaiacol salsalate (II) with acetic anhydride to obtain guaiacol acetylsalsalate (III) in accordance with the reaction: ##STR4## In stage (a) the 2-hydroxybenzoylchloride is dissolved in an organic solvent, preferably 1,2-dichloroethane, the solution is cooled to a temperature of between -2° and +2° C., and N,N-dimethylaniline and guaiacol salsalate are added under energetic agitation.
