(S)-[1-[[[[3-[(1,4-Dihydro-5-hydroxy-4-oxo-2-pyridinyl)methyl]-2-oxo-1-imidazolidinyl]sulfonyl]amino]carbonyl]-2-oxo-3-azetidinyl]carbamic acid, phenylmethyl ester (0.50 g, 0.93 mmol) was added to a mixture of 0.5 ml of thioanisole and 2 ml of trifluoroacetic acid . The solution was stirred overnight at room temperature and evaporated in vacuo. The residue was triturated with ether, filtered off by suction, and dried in vacuo, yielding 0.49 g of the title compound, melting point 155° C.
