Reaction Steps

A solution of (2-methyl-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridin-3-yl)-acetic acid methyl ester ((0.512 g, 2.51 mmol) in dry DMF (5.6 ml) at room temperature is treated with BEMP (1.17 ml, 4.01 mmol) dropwise. The reaction mixture is stirred at room temperature for 80 minutes and then treated with 1-bromomethyl-4-methanesulfinyl-benzene (0.934 g, 4.01 mmol). After stirring at room temperature for a further 2 hours, the reaction mixture is partitioned between ethyl acetate/ether (300 ml of a 1:1 mixture) and water (30 ml). The organic portion is separated and washed with brine, dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated in vacuo. The resulting crude is purified by chromatography on silica eluting with DCM/methanol (10:1) to yield the titled product. (MH+ 357)
