To a solution of the compound (18.1 g) obtained in step 1 in acetic acid (181 mL) was added platinum oxide (PtO2) (1.29 g), and the mixture was stirred overnight under a hydrogen atmosphere (5 atm) at room temperature. The catalyst was filtered off, and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to give methyl (3R*,4S*)-3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)piperidine-4-carboxylate monohydrochloride (14.04 g, 76%) as a white powder.
