8-Aminomethyltetracyclo[4,3,0,02,4,03,7 ]nonane (1.1 g.) was heated under reflux for 16 hours with ethyl formate. The solvent was removed in vacuo and the residue chromatographed on silica gel with ethyl acetate as eluant to give 8-(N-formylaminomethyl)tetracyclo[4,3,0,02,4,03,7 ]nonane. This product was reduced in ether solution with lithium aluminium hydride as in previous Examples and the resulting amine precipitated as its hydrochloride. There was thus obtained 8-(N-methylaminomethyl)tetracyclo[4,3,0,02,4,03,7 ]nonane hydrochloride, m.p. 225°-226° C.
