Reaction Steps
A mixture of intermediate (7) (0.019 mol) in methanol (150 ml) was hydrogenated with palladium-on-carbon (10%, 2 g) as a catalyst. After uptake of hydrogen (1 equivalent), the catalyst was filtered off and the filtrate was evaporated, yielding 4 g of (trans)4-(aminomethyl)-1-[2-(1,3-dioxolan-2-yl)ethyl]-3-piperidinol (intermediate 8).
