At 25° C., iodine (3.21, 12.64 mmol) was added to the PPh3 solution in CH2Cl2 (40 mL). After 10 minutes, triethylamine (1.5 mL) was added, followed by compound 71 (2.5 g, 6.32 mmol). After 20 hours, the solution was concentrated and passed through a pad of silica gel (100 mL). The crude oil was purified by column chromatography (25-30% EtOAc in hexanes), affording 600 mg (25%) of the desired product as a solid. 1.6 g of compound 71 was recovered.
