3-(5-[2-(Tetrahydro-pyran-2-yloxy)-ethyl]-[1,3,4]thiadiazol-2-yl}-benzoic acid methyl ester (1.60 g) was treated with lithium tert.-butyl acetate according to general procedure K (method b) to give 3-oxo-3-(3-{5-[2-(tetrahydro-pyran-2-yloxy)-ethyl]-[1,3,4]thiadiazol-2-yl}-phenyl)-propionic acid tert-butyl ester (2.1 g) as a pale-yellow oil.
