To a solution of (2,3-difluoro-phenyl)-methanol (5.0 g, 35 mmol), imidazole (4.9 g, 72 mmol) and DMF (40 mL) was added tert-butyldimethylchlorosilane (5.4 g, 36 mmol). After stirring at ambient temperature for 24 hours, the mixture was partitioned between 400 mL of ether and 100 mL of water. The organic layer was washed twice with water, dried over MgSO4, filtered and concentrated in vacuo, affording 6.8 g of tert-butyl-(2,3-difluoro-benzyloxy)-dimethyl-silane as a colorless oil. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 7.22 (m, 1H), 7.04 (m, 2H), 4.79 (s, 2H), 0.91 (s, 9H), 0.12 (s, 6H) ppm.
