The title compound was prepared from (E)-(S)-ethyl 3-{4-[3-(4,4″-di-tert-butyl-[1,1′;3′,1″]terphenyl-5′-yl)-allyloxy]-phenyl}-2-ethoxy-propionate (example 121) (345 mg, 0.56 mmol) and sodium hydroxide (1M, 1.1 ml, 1.1 mmol) by a procedure analogous to that described in example 51, yielding (E)-(S)-3-{4-[3-(4,4″-di-tert-butyl-[1,1′;3′,1″]terphenyl-5′-yl)-allyloxy]-phenyl}-2-ethoxy-propionic acid (284 mg, 86%) as a colourless foam.
