Procedure
2,2,2-Trichloro-1-[(10-cyclohexylbenzoyl)-10,11-dihydro-5H-pyrrolo[2,1-c][1,4]bernzodiazepin-3-yl]-ethanone of Example 7 (5.83 g) was added to a mixture of acetone (100 mL) and 2.5 N sodium hydroxide (8.5 mL). The reaction mixture was refluxed for one hour and then evaporated to dryness. Water was added to the residue and the solution was extracted with dichloromethane. The aqueous layer was acidified with glacial acetic acid and evaporated to dryness. The residual oil crystallized to provide the title compound as a light tan solid (3.03 g), m.p. 193–194° C.
