Reaction Steps
50 g of 1,4-butenediol was dissolved in 200 ml of tetrahydrofuran and 280 mg of pyridinium p-toluenesulfonate was added and a solution prepared by dissolving 10.27 g of 3,4-dihydro-2H-pyrane in 50 ml of tetrahydrofuran was added dropwise under ice cooling. After the temperature was returned to room temperature, the reaction solution was stirred for 21 hours. The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure and the residue was extracted with diethyl ether after adding water. The extract was washed with saturated brine and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and then the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure to obtain 7.05 g of a desired crude product as a colorless oily substance.
