Reaction Steps
Sodium azide (0.841 g, 12.9 mmol) was added to a solution of tert-butyl 6-bromo-4-(cyclopropylmethyl)-5-oxo-2-phenyl-1,4-diazepane-1-carboxylate (0.609 g, 1.43 mmol) in N,N-dimethylforamide (10 mL) and heated to 70° C. After 1 h, the mixture was allowed to cool to ambient temperature and water was added. The mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate, washed with water (3×), saturated brine, dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered, and concentrated. Purification by silica gel chromatography (20% ethyl acetate/hexanes→50% ethyl acetate/hexanes) gave 170 mg of the trans isomer and 30 mg of the cis isomer. MS 386 (M+1).
