A mixture of 420 mg (1.005 mmol) of 7,8-dibenzyl-4-chloro-2-(trifluoromethyl)-5,6,7,8-tetrahydropyrido[3,4-d]pyrimidine from Step C and 63 mg of 10% palladium on carbon in 4 mL of ethyl acetate and 7 mL of methanol was stirred under an atmosphere of hydrogen for 2 h. The mixture was filtered through a 0.45 micron syringe filter, washing with methanol, and concentrated to give a white solid. Trituration with ether gave 330 mg (100%) of the title compound as a white powder. LC-MS 294.1 (M+1).
